  The Site

The Site

AMFC's model aerodrome is located on the site of the old Stracathro Airfield. Two minutes away from the A90 trunk road, just to the south east of the Stracathro services, access to the site is both easy and fast from pretty much anywhere in Angus.

Established in 1941 as the relief airfield for the historic Montrose Aerodrome, Stracathro Airfield saw use as a training site from 1942 for the practice of blind approach landings.

The club house

AMFC has secured the use of 3 acres of pasture land right next to the old concrete perimeter track. We have three close-mown runways ranging in length from 180 to 260 yards, all of which can happily accomodate large scale models and jets.

We have a club house with seating and cooking facilities situated right next to the pits so you can enjoy a tea or coffee and watch the flying. We even have a "control tower" that houses the frequency control pegs, first aid kit, fire extinguisher, and is used for transmitter control during fly-ins and events. With sufficient car parking space for at least twenty vehicles, we have the facilities to host very active events.
